Njideka Akunyili

Originally from Nigeria, Njideka came to the United States to pursue her college education. After earning her bachelor's degree, she enrolled in PAFA’s Post Baccalaureate program. Captivated by the intensity of the program and the close relationships she established with her faculty (she credits Sidney Goodman, in particular), Njideka transitioned into PAFA’s Certificate Program. In fall 2011, Njideka began her studies in the MFA Program at Yale University.

Katelyn Greth

“I create sculpture for the child in me, which is why they are doll-like. I don’t necessarily need them to be realistic, but I need them to have a presence or a soul. I often think of my sculptures as my children and talk to them.” Katelyn won the William Emlen Cresson Memorial Travel Scholarship.

Ben Passione

Ben is the recipient of the Lewis S. Ware Memorial Travel Scholarship and the Cuff/Sammak Prize for Abstract Painting.

Doron Langberg

"My drawings reference imagery taken from videos and photos that capture intimate and erotic situations in my life and my close surroundings, thereby encapsulating intensely personal experiences. The process of filtering these experiences and memories through the language of drawing is an intuitive dialogue between my materials and myself, where every action determines the one to follow. This process enables me to explore how an image is constructed and how it can best depict the humanity of its subjects."

Micka Thurin

Micka is a student in PAFA's Coordinated BFA Program with the University of Pennsylvania. Moving here from Saginaw, Michigan, she chose PAFA for the quality of student work that comes out of the school. Her love of the figure has allowed for a lot of exploration within the human form. She works in a variety of mediums to create her many-layered paintings.

Kate Samworth

Before moving to Philadelphia, Kate studied painting and drawing at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, founded by PAFA alumnus Auseklis Ozols. She decided to get her bachelors degree at PAFA after taking some printmaking classes in Continuing Education. “There is a strong sense of community in the print department and students learn from and help each other there. Because the department is open to experimentation, a lot of interesting work is made in the Print Shop.” Kate won the Richard C. Von Hess Memorial Travel Scholarship and the Henry C. Pratt Memorial Prize in Printmaking.

Catherine Mulligan

“I am so grateful for all the amazingly talented, hard-working and humble artists I met here both as instructors and fellow students. I was also pleased with the visiting artists program and lecture series which allowed me to meet some of my favorite contemporary artists like Zoe Strauss, and Sophie Jodoin, and to see lectures from Robert Ryman and Chris Ware.” Catherine won several awards during her time at PAFA, including the Woman’s Board Travel Scholarship and the Governor's Award.
