The Academy BFA

How will it work?

As the newest member of the Academy community, The Academy BFA will combine the best of both worlds—the extraordinary training our students receive in the fine arts, as well as incorporating unique and creatively focused concepts in liberal arts education. Beginning in 2008, we will offer liberal arts classes to supplement and enhance our fine arts courses for Academy BFA students. Over the next 4 years, we will roll out a full compliment of liberal arts classes.

What are the differences in the Academy BFA and the Penn BFA?

The Academy BFA involves 126 credits of Academy coursework, including studio and art history. All courses are taken at the Academy or transferred in from another institution. The Coordinated BFA with the University of Pennsylvania generally involves either 3 or 4 years of the Academy studio and art history courses (a minimum of 90 Academy credits) plus 16 liberal arts courses at the University of Pennsylvania. The Penn program involves interaction with not only the Academy community, but with the students in the College of General Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Both options have extraordinary advantages.

Is everyone eligible?

Admission to the Academy BFA program is competitive. All completed applications will be reviewed for their artistic ability as well as their academic ability. An Academy BFA applicant who does not meet the minimum academic requirements for the program will be considered for the Certificate program.
