An opportunity to sharpen your drawing skills, share ideas and meet new friends and faculty!  Work from a life model in your medium of choice.  A CE faculty member will be available for assistance or discussion.  If not a current student, must have previously enrolled in a CE class and show a PAFA student ID for admittance.  Pay just $50 for the entire session (pre-registration required) or $5 at the door.

IN 610EW Alla Prima Painting Workshop with Christine Lafuente NEW!

Brooklyn-based painter and PAFA alum, Christine Lafuente, calls her paintings "poetic responses to visual experience.” Deepen your understanding of color harmony with Lafuente in this alla prima oil painting workshop. Explore a range of palettes, experiment with principles of viscosity in alla prima painting, and learn to relate drawing concepts to color in painting.

A graduate of PAFA's Certificate Program, Lafuente was was awarded the Louis Ware Memorial Travel Scholarship. She also earned a Bachelors of Art in English from Bryn Mawr College and a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting from Brooklyn College in 2004.  Laufuente exhibits nationally and internationally at Frost and Reed Gallery, New York and London, and Gross-McCleaf Gallery, Philadelphia.  She teaches drawing at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

Photography has been a tool of the visual artist since its invention in the 19th century.  Learn strategies to translate your photographs into unique drawings and paintings.  Topics include gridding, cropping and enlarging images; use of the photocopier and making mixed media and color studies.  Includes a history of the preparatory process of the artist.

Learn everything you need to know about encaustic painting – the technique of painting with tinted beeswax, one of the oldest forms of painting.  Originally used for funerary decoration in ancient Egypt, it is still employed by many contemporary artists.  An enjoyable medium to work with, offering a tremendous range of finishes.  Bring your ideas and sketches! (Note: Tuition includes most materials)
