Learn to create unique etchings called monoprints by incorporating painterly inking methods with basic intaglio techniques. Work in black-and-white and color using traditional intaglio techniques, including drypoint, etched line, open bite, aquatint, hard ground, simple collograph methods, and soft ground, producing both linear and tonal effects. Full-day only.

Screenprinting, made famous by Andy Warhol, is a stencil method of making black-and-white and multi-colored prints. All aspects of the process will be demonstrated and explored, including creating photo-based stencils, printing with water-based acrylic inks on paper and fabrics, overprint mediums and monoprinting. The class will visit the Print Study Room at the Philadelphia Museum of Art to review the history of the medium. Additional lab fee of $20. Full-day only.

Survey traditional intaglio printmaking techniques including drypoint, etched line, openbite, aquatint, and hardground and softground etching to produce both linear and tonal effects. Mixed-media methods for creating texture and color, such as hand-painting prints, will also be explored. Full-day only.
If you like making collages, then collograph is the type of printmaking for you. Using basic chipboard, incorporate elements such as gesso, sandpaper, leaves, string etc., to create textured prints. Print as relief, intaglio or both, in black-and-white and color. Collographs are fun, economical and guaranteed to release your creative spirit.
