Anthony Ciambella
Adjunct Instructor, Certificate/BFA/Continuing Ed
Anthony Ciambella received a Certificate in Painting from PAFA and completed the Academy’s Conservation Apprenticeship Program. He has been teaching at the Academy for over 25 years. He works as a painter, sculptor, photographer and mixed media and digital artist. Intrigued by ancient civilizations, ethnography and rituals, he draws on a wide range of artistic traditions. He is also a Painting Conservator, practicing in Philadelphia for more than 35 years, including PAFA, the Barnes Foundation and numerous public and private collections.
He has exhibited works in many group and solo exhibitions throughout the Philadelphia area and is represented in various private collections. His awards include several PAFA Fellowship Prizes, the Samuel S. Fleisher Memorial Challenge Award and the 2010 Academy Faculty Development Grant.
Ciambella teaches a course on Materials and Techniques in the Certificate/BFA program as well as the Continuing Education program. His Materials and Techniques course explores the consequences of using the materials available to artists today and their compatibility and durability over time. He also coordinates PAFA's Student Gallery 128 and the Anatomy Drawing Program at Hahnemann University Hospital.
