1. Priority Deadline: March 1

The priority date for full consideration for Academy-based aid (FCWS, FSEOG and Academy Scholarships) is March 1 (or, if this date falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline is the next business day). Be advised that there are other deadlines published in the FAFSA relating to federal and state student aid. The March 1 priority date allows applicants to adhere to these deadlines, so that applicants can be considered for the Federal Pell Grant, PHEAA State Grant (if applicable) and Academy-based aid.

If you are a new student applying for acceptance into the Academy, you should apply for financial aid as soon as possible, even if you have not received your admissions decision. DO NOT WAIT TO BE ACCEPTED BEFORE APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID!

7 Easy Steps for Applying for Financial Aid.

2. Complete the FAFSA form:

  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a renewal FAFSA. Mail the FAFSA to the address on the envelope provided with the form. The Academy's FAFSA Federal School Code is 014653 (see Step 6, below)
  • International students are welcome to complete the International Student Financial Aid Application
  • If you would like to borrow from the Federal Stafford Loan Program, you must complete a Master Promissory Note. A note will be mailed to you. The application should be mailed with the endorsed pre-paid envelope. You may also go online to complete the note at www.aessuccess.org.
  • If you are a parent and would like to receive a Parent Plus Loan, please contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
  • If you are an MFA applicant or student and would like information about the Graduate PLUS Loan, please contact the Financial Aid Office.

3. Verification

You may be selected for a process called verification by the federal government. In this case we will need to collect from you certain specific documentation that will support the information that you entered on the FAFSA form. If you do not comply with this process and/or the facts on both forms do not match, any aid that you have been awarded may change or be cancelled. A verification worksheet will be mailed to you.

4. Student Aid Report (SAR)

If you submitted your FAFSA online, you will receive an e-mail regarding your SAR.

Approximately 4-6 weeks after submitting your paper FAFSA (or renewal FAFSA), you will receive an SAR. Review the information supplied on the SAR and, if correct, retain it for your records. If you need to make corrections, make them on Part 2 of the SAR. Affix the appropriate signature(s) and date(s), and then submit Part 2 to the address indicated. Upon receipt of the corrected SAR, follow the instructions above.

To check on your FAFSA or request a duplicate SAR, call the Federal Student Information Center at: 1-800-4-FED-AID or 1-319-337-5665.

5. Respond Promptly

Please respond promptly and correctly to any requests for additional information. Once your file is complete, you will be notified via an Award Letter as to your eligibility for financial assistance. The Award Letter will also state your loan eligibility. Please remember to indicate which financial aid awards and/or loans you are accepting on the award letter, sign and date the bottom of the award letter and return it to the financial aid office as soon as possible.

6. Federal School Code

The Academy's FAFSA Federal School Code is 014653.
